National Stadium

Kuala Lumpur Sports City

National Stadium is the central and most prominent sports center and building at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil. The elliptical outdoor stadium has a total area of 76,000 square meters and its classical bowl shape is enhanced by the dramatic overlapping of three spectator tiers.

The construction of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium began in March 1994 and was fully completed in 1998 with the opening of the biggest event, the XVI Commonwealth Games - Kuala Lumpur '98.

The 108m x 65m field is girdled by a nine-lanes 400meters synthetic track built in accordance to specifications of international sports bodies. It also features a 6m x 60m Mondo Track specially designed for warming-up purposes.

The overall building design segregates different user groups such as athletes, officials, spectators, VIPs and media personnel. Spectators enter the stadium through the main concourse, which is the same level as the pedestrian plaza encircling the stadium.

In addition, there a royal lounge, corporate suites and breakout area. The separate press section includes news offices, broadcasting studio and technical equipment rooms.

On the first level, there are changing rooms, sauna rooms and rooms for competitors and coaches. Facilities for competition management, security services and equipment stores are also located here.

A dynamic sound system is also available here. The pre-programmed floodlighting system is equipped with metal halide lights made for TV coverage. Two colored 4k video LED light scoreboards are sited at the north and south ends of the stadium.

One is interfaced with the Seiko timing and results evaluation system to provide information on events and competitors. The other has a high-tech screen capable of providing fast action video displays from local cameras, pre-recorded tapes and TV signals.
